The Flood tribunal could investigate whether there was political influence used in the awarding of a radio licence in Limerick. A Limerick businessman, Mr Ger Madden, confirmed yesterday that he was submitting documents to the tribunal. Seven consortiums originally applied for Limerick's first local independent radio licence. It was narrowed down to three and the licence was awarded to RLO. The station was later taken over by Mr Madden and in 1997, after the licence was withdrawn from him by the IRTC, it was awarded to Treaty Radio, trading as Live 95 FM.
Mr Madden continues to run RLO as a satellite station and any investigation will centre around events before he took over the station.
He said he was submitting evidence as part of the investigation into Mr Ray Burke's role as Minister for Communications. He said he was asked to submit any relevant documents from around that time.
