A Co Down man has been put on probation for a year after pleading guilty to committing an act of gross indecency on an eight year old boy.

In Armagh Magistrates Court yesterday, Paul Thomas Anthony Gill (29), a van driver, of Drumgullion Avenue, Newry, was told by the magistrate, Mr Robert Porter, that he would have to come to terms with his problem or he would be jailed. The offence occurred at Loughgilly, near Markethill, last November.

The magistrate read a probation service report but did not comment on the contents beyond remarking that Gill "clearly has a problem".
