A remand prisoner who admitted sexually assaulting his cellmate after they had smoked cannabis was sent back to prison for two years yesterday. Kieran Keenaa (25) from Ardowen, Craigavon, pleaded guilty at Belfast Crown Court to a charge of buggery, committed in November 1994, while he was on remand in Belfast's Crumlin Road prison.

Judge Frank Russell heard that after taking the drugs, the victim fell asleep and woke to find he had been gagged, his hands tied behind his back, and he was being sexually assaulted.

Passing sentence Judge Russell said this had been an extraordinary sequence of events. "The taking of drugs may plain what happened, but does not excuse your actions, he told Keenan."
