Athens - Greece's ruling Panhellenic Socialists Movement (Pasok) is trying to woo undecided voters after opinion polls published yesterday showed the general election on April 9th is likely to be a cliff-hanger.
The Prime Minister, Mr Costas Simitis, and Pasok - credited with shaping up Greece's economy and setting it on track for EMU membership - are leading their main rival, the conservative New Democracy, by a slim 0.3 to 0.4 percentage points in the polls. Plunging prices on the Athens stock market have angered small investors and appeared to be the main force narrowing the gap.
