Warsaw - The Polish parliament yesterday voted overwhelmingly to approve member ship of NATO, Poland's most important foreign policy objective since the fall of communism nearly a decade ago.

Watched by the Polish President, Mr Alexander Kwasniewski, lower house legislators voted 409 to seven to permit the head of state to sign the NATO treaty.
