Policeman injured in Co Down robbery


A policeman was injured during the arrest of a suspect following a robbery at an engineering equipment firm in Newtownards, Co Down today.

He suffered arm injuries when a teenager was detained by police close to the firm on the Comber Road at around 3.30am, said a police spokeswoman.

Two other teenagers were detained elsewhere in the town a short time later.

All three, two age 15 and one aged 17 were being questioned about the robbery during which a lap top computer was understood to be among items stolen.

The policeman’s injuries were not believed to be serious.
