The Pogues are to be honoured tonight with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Meteor Ireland Music Awards at The Point in Dublin.

The band has been around for more than 20 years with their blend of Irish folk and punk.

Grammy Award-winning Riverdance composer Bill Whelan will be presented with the Industry Award. He will receive the award for his work in the Irish music business for over 26 years.

The founder of the Arrupe Society, Fr Peter McVerry, will be awarded with a Humanitarian Award together and a cheque for €100,000 in recognition of his, and his team's, work providing care for young homeless boys.

The €100,000 donation will go towards the work of the Arrupe Society in the six centres they run.

Acts such as the Pogues along with The Darkness, Westlife, Jamie Cullum, Damien Dempsey, Bell X1, and Republic of Loose are expected to perform at the ceremony.

The show will be broadcast on RTÉ 2 television on Sunday 5th February at 9pm.
