US PRESIDENT Bill Clinton and his wife Hillary spent about one hour snorkelling yesterday at the Great Barrier Reel, an experience he called "unforgettable".

The Clintons, accompanied by what a spokeswoman would only describe as "a lot" of Secret Service agents, went to a site about 30 miles off the Australian coast in the Coral Sea, and swam among the coral and brightly coloured fish.

Jemima Khan (22) has left hospital with her son Sulaiman Isa. The wife of Pakistan cricket hero turned politician Imran said she was "feeling fine" and was "very happy" after giving birth last Sun"day at the Portland Hospital in London.

An amateur film that captured US President Kennedy and his wife Jackie in the minutes before he was shot has been released by the federal board compiling a public record of the assassination.

The three minute, 16 mm film was taken by Dave Powers, a presidential aide who accompanied the Kennedys on the trip to Texas in November 1963. Its release by the Assassination Records Review Board came just before the 33rd anniversary of the assassination.

A walk on part in a Mike Leigh film has been sold to actress Greta Scacchi for more than £900.

Known for her performances in Emma and White Mischief Scacchi was taking part in a celebrity auction in aid of the London Lighthouse's 10th Anniversary Appeal.

The film part, donated by Leigh, was one of 50 lots on offer to raise money for a new centre to help young people affected by HIV and AIDS.

Writers will today join French President Jacques Chirac in a tribute to Andre Malraux, one of France's leading 20th century cultural figures, whose ashes are to be reburied in the Pantheon of French national heroes. Foreign guests attending the ceremony at a former church in the Paris Latin Quarter includes Mario Vargas Llosa, V.S. Naipaul and Amos Oz.
