In Limerick the parents of two missing men, who are feared murdered, have issued fresh appeals for information about the whereabouts of their sons.

Bob and Nancy Shanahan, and Teresa Carroll, appealed for help as they laid flowers at the memorial plaque to murdered businessman Roy Collins, who was taken from his family three years ago this week.

Roy’s father, Steve, always supported the Shanahans and Carrolls as the three families campaigned for justice for their sons.

Last month Mr Collins and his wife and children were forced to flee Limerick as part of a Garda relocation programme after receiving constant threats from Limerick criminals.

While posing for pictures outside the pub, which Steve ran and where his son was shot dead, the Shanahans and Mrs Carroll asked people with information about their sons’ disappearances to take seriously the inscription on Roy Collins’s memorial plaque.

The tribute reads: “The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing.” An emotional Bob Shanahan (69), whose son Gussie has been missing for 12 years, said: “Steve Collins did an appeal for us after his son died here, to ask those people who know something, to come forward and not be hiding behind the bushes. We want to show solidarity with the Collins .”
