Ireland had shared in the spoils of colonialism through its membership of the European Union, broadcaster Vincent Browne said last night. Because of this, it also owed a responsibility to people who had suffered as a result.
He was launching a pamphlet on refugees by The Irish Times Development Correspondent, Paul Cullen. Two other pamphlets have also just been published: Prison Policy in Ireland by Paul O'Mahony and Farm Incomes by Alan Matthews. The Irish Times Legal Correspondent Carol Coulter, who edited the pamphlets, said their publication showed an encouraging faith in the concept of a pamphlet as a contribution to social argument by the publisher, Cork University Press.
