Over 30 appeals have been submitted to An Bord Pleanála concerning the €350 million redevelopment of Lansdowne Road stadium.

One of the primary concerns of local residents is that the new stadium will rise to 48.5m (160ft) higher than Croke Park.

Over 10 of the submissions lodged with An Bord Pleanála before yesterday's deadline requested an oral hearing in relation to the plans put forward by Lansdowne Road Stadium Development Company (LRSDC), which were this month approved by Dublin City Council.

Last night local councillor Kevin Humphreys said it could be November before an oral hearing takes place, leading to the possibility that a final decision from may not be made public until Christmas.

Sophia Wallace, of the O'Connell Gardens Boundary Group, which represents residents living directly behind the stadium, said residents were chiefly concerned about the proposed height.

She said the redevelopment was also a "relocation" of the stadium due to the extension into new areas and new entrances.

Fellow resident Derek Pomeroy said residents concerns had not been examined in detail by the council.
