The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI) has said it will award the commercial digital terrestrial television (DTT) licence to the OneVision consortium of Eircom, TV3 and Setanta Sports.

The consortium will be awarded the three national Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) multiplex contracts subject to the successful outcome of contract negotiations over the coming weeks.

OneVision was the second placed applicant for the DTT contracts, which were originally advertised by the BCI in March of last year. However, the group was awarded with the contract following Boxer’s decision to abandon its DTT plans last month.

RTÉ has already been awarded the free-to-air DTT multiplex, which will carry terrestrial channels via a set-top box.
