Denis O’Brien’s declared shareholding in Independent News & Media (INM) has been increased by over 1.5 per cent to 22.67 per cent.

In a statement today representatives of O'Brien said he now holds 188,399,857 ordinary shares.

Earlier this month Sir Antony O'Reilly increased his shareholding INM to 27.88 per cent.

At the end of March last the shareholdings of both men – the most significant shareholders in the company – were diluted following the completion of an all-share deal in which the company acquired the 50 per cent stake in African advertiser Clear Channel Independent that it did not own.

That deal saw Sir Anthony O'Reilly's stake diluted to 26.63 per cent.

Mr O'Brien, who has been stake-building in INM held a 21.07 per cent share in the company following the dilution.
