THE DPP has directed no prosecutions following the death of a 23-year-old man who was struck by a car driven by an off-duty garda, an inquest has heard.

Jack Whelan, Beech Lodge, Kincora Grove, Clontarf, Dublin, died after being hit by a car on the Clontarf Road on April 12th, 2009. He was pronounced dead at the Mater hospital.

A postmortem by the deputy State Pathologist, Dr Michael Curtis, found Mr Whelan died of multiple injuries.

Senior investigating officer with the Garda Ombudsman Commission Brian Doherty told the inquest at the Dublin City Coroner’s Court yesterday that the Garda Ombudsman Commission’s investigation into the matter is complete and a file has been sent to the DPP, who directed no prosecutions.
