A MAJOR road closure will take place on the N11 in Co Wicklow tomorrow from 9am-6pm to allow for the realignment of ESB high voltage transmission lines.

Traffic will be diverted from a nine-kilometre stretch between the Beehive Inn at Coolbeg cross, two kilometres south of the Wicklow exit, and Jack White’s pub at Balynapark, Brittas Bay.

The power lines are being moved to facilitate the proposed N11 improvement scheme between Rathnew and Arklow.

Northbound traffic will be diverted west, southbound traffic east.

Northbound traffic will have the shorter diversion, turning before Jack White’s pub and returning to the N11 at Lil Doyle’s pub at Barndarrig. Southbound traffic will divert in the vicinity of Rathnew and continue to Brittas Bay before turning west for Jack White’s. The routes will be signposted.

To avoid the N11, motorists are advised to use the M7 and M9 if travelling between Dublin and Wexford.

Wicklow County Council said traffic restrictions will be imposed at critical points along the diversion route.

Westbound traffic on the R751 (Marlton road) will have access only as far as the Beehive pub. N11 access will not be available at the Beehive junction.

Northbound traffic will not be able to access Wicklow via the Beehive junction and will be diverted via Rathnew.
