Khartoum - The River Nile seasonal floods, which have reached their highest levels in 20 years, are "out of control" in northern Sudan, but under control in the capital Khartoum, officials said yesterday.

Problems occurred evacuating inhabitants from 99 islands on the Nile in northern Abu Hamad province due to heavy rains and storms, the local commissioner, Mr Al-Khair Ahmed Abuzaid, said in a report in Al-Watan newspaper.
