A jury in the Central Criminal Court was suddenly discharged yesterday after evidence was found to be "wholly inaccurate".

Discharging the jury, Mr Justice Carney said a previous issue had had to be revisited in the morning and it had been found inaccurate.

To proceed with the trial might lead the accused to feel he was not getting a fair administration of justice, he said.

Mr Paul Rowley (28), of Cherry Orchard Avenue in Ballyfermot, Dublin, denies the attempted murder of Mr John Alford and Ms Violet Power Blackburn on December 11th, 1996, at Ballyfermot Drive in the city.

Mr Rowley also denies charges of possession of a .45 calibre handgun and ammunition for an unlawful purpose and with intent to endanger life.

Mr Justice Carney told the jury that because of the circumstances he was going to ask another jury to adjudicate on the case, adding that he was saying as little as possible because another jury would have to revisit the evidence.
