Stack A, the landmark 19th century in Dublin's IFSC is to be transformed into a 13,000 sq metre retail, restaurant and cultural venue by the Dublin Docklands Development Authority(DDDA).

Work on the IR20 million development has already begun and is expected to be finished for Christmas 2003.

According to Mr Lar Bradshaw, Chairman of the DDDA, the objective of the project is to provide a heart for the area and to breath life into the docklands after business hours.

The ground floor is expected to be left as an open space with the side facing the river formed entirely of glass, while the basement, consisting of a network of old wine vaults and cellars will be turned into bars and restaurants.
