New appeal issued by Dublin, Monaghan bomb inquiry

A new appeal for help has been issued by the Independent Commission investigating the Dublin, Monaghan and Dundalk bombings.

A new appeal for help has been issued by the Independent Commission investigating the Dublin, Monaghan and Dundalk bombings.

Advertisements in newspapers this weekend will urge anyone in a position to help with the inquiry to come forward.

In a statement issued today, the Commission noted that "while a considerable time lapse has occurred since these awful events, the memory of what occurred still seems fresh in many peoples’ minds".

The Commission, chaired by retired Supreme Court Judge Henry Barron, has carried out a series of interviews and has acknowledged the work done by the Justice for the Forgotten group. 33 people died in the bombings in Dublin and Monaghan in 1974.

Judge Barron took over the inquiry after the death of Mr Justice Liam Hamilton last November.
