Jerusalem - The Prime Minister, Mr Benjamin Netanyahu, scrambled yesterday to distance himself from a bill aimed at blocking any Israeli withdrawal from the
Golan Heights after it bitterly divided his government. Mr Netanyahu, who voted for the first stage of legislation when it was narrowly approved by the parliament on Wednesday, said he now wanted to tone it down.
Syria said the new bill could destroy any hopes of a resumption of peace talks. - (AFP)
