A British musician who attacked a garda after being seen talking to a prostitute was ordered to carry out 100 hours community service yesterday.

Garda Caroline Maloney said Steven Rekab (40), of Cambridge Terrace, Dun Laoghaire, who walked to an ATM machine after being seen talking to a well-known prostitute at Wilton Terrace on May 1st, refused to give his name and pushed the garda in the chest.

Rekab had to be handcuffed and held down in a Garda van while he continued to lash out and scream abuse.

Judge Desmond Hogan ordered the man to carry out 100 hours community service in lieu of three months imprisonment and to sign a peace bond for one year.
