A murder inquiry has been opened by police in Belfast following the death of a man in the west of the city this morning.

A murder inquiry has been opened by police in Belfast following the death of a man in the west of the city this morning.

The man was found with serious head injuries on waste ground in the Woodburn Crescent area of west Belfast at 2am.

Emergency services were called to the scene, which is at the rear of Woodburn PSNI station, but the man died before he could be taken to hospital.

A spokeswoman for the PSNI said officers are trying to identify the man, whose age has yet to be determined.

The PSNI confirmed a murder investigation has been opened and they have appealed to the public for information.

The dead man was wearing a Donegal Celtic top, a cream khaki jacket, black jeans and a Ben Sherman watch.
