A jury failed to agree a verdict last night in the trial of a Balbriggan, Co Dublin, man charged with the murder of another man in the town last year.
The six men and six women deliberated for more than four hours before telling the judge they had not agreed on a verdict in the trial of Mr Alan Rooney (28), of Curran Park, who had denied the murder of David Hammond (24), also of Curran Park, at Pump Lane on April 27th, 1996.
Mr Justice Carney discharged the jury and listed the case for mention on March 13th, when a new trial date may be fixed.
