Motorists have been advised that there may be serious traffic delays on major routes leading to and from the Oxegen music festival and the K Club in Co Kildare over the weekend.
Oxegen gets under way at Punchestown racecourse today and the European Open golf tournament continues at the K Club in Straffan.
The two events in Kildare are expected to attract 150,000 people, which will lead to much larger than normal traffic volumes.
Although it was estimated that three-quarters of people attending Oxegen would have made their way there yesterday in advance of the festival, road users are still being advised to avoid unnecessary journeys on the N7, M4 and N81.
Traffic is expected to be lighter today, but AA Roadwatch expects the main routes to be busy from the early morning.
People hoping to attend the European Open are advised to use the M4 to avoid the area around the Oxegen festival.
Festival-goers have been urged to use public transport where possible, with free park-and-ride facilities available at Goffs on the N7 and shuttle buses to Punchestown continuing. Dublin Bus shuttles from Parnell Square carried approximately 9,000 people to the festival yesterday.
Buses will also depart for Dublin after the concert on Saturday and Sunday, and they will also operate from 6am until 12pm on Monday. Nitelink services will operate in Dublin after the festival on Sunday and Monday morning.
There were delays of at least one hour to get through Naas yesterday. The M7 was very heavy back to Johnstown and there were delays on the N7 northbound at Abbeyleix.
