Colombia's Juan Pablo Montoya snatched his second pole in three races in a rain-hit qualifying session for the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps today.

Montoya judged his last run to perfection to take top spot in thrilling fashion in the dying seconds from Williams-BMW team-mate Ralf Schumacher.

Ferrari's newly-crowned world champion Michael Schumacher had to settle for third place as he looked to celebrate his 10th anniversary in Formula One by scoring his maiden pole in Belgium.

Heinz-Harald Frentzen also conjured up a late flying lap to take an unexpected fourth spot - Prost's best of the year - with Rubens Barrichello fifth for Ferrari and Jacques Villeneuve sixth for BAR.

McLaren's David Coulthard, whose time on the track has been severely restricted, was back in ninth spot - his worst of the campaign. Eddie Irvine was back in 17th for Jaguar with the Jordans not faring much better, Alesi took 13th and Trulli 16th.
