Some 200 Polish workers at the Moneypoint power station in Co Clare, who were left unpaid when their employer went into liquidation, have voted unanimously to accept settlement terms offered to them by ZRE Katowicz (Ireland) Construction Limited.

The workers, all members of the Technical Engineering and Electrical Union (TEEU), were  working on the refit of the power station. They were owed six weeks pay by the Polish subcontractor.

Meanwhile, all of the workers involved have been offered jobs with the main contractor Lentjes at the Moneypoint site, or with other contractors on site, including the UK based company AMEC, which is taking over the ZRE contract.

The TEEU's general secretary designate Eamon Devoy said there were jobs available for all those affected.

"We have also secured jobs with ZRE Katowicz in Poland for those who wish to return home but most of our members are expected to take up the Irish offers," he said.

The main Moneypoint contractor, Lentjes, has made arrangements to make ex gratiapayments worth about 50 per cent of the total due to the workers this week and the balance will be met from the State Insolvency Fund.
