Missing girl (13) found dead at Cavan house

The results of a post mortem examination on the body of a 13-year-old Cavan girl may not be known for a number of days, gardaí said today.

The teenager was formally named today as Jamie Farrelly Maughan. Jamie had not been seen since at 2 a.m. last night. Sunday. Gardaí are treating her death as suspicious, while they await full post mortem results.

Jamie Farrelly Maughan was found dead in the back garden of the house yesterday afternoon.

A Garda spokesman said it may take a number of days for the results to be released as toxicology tests are carried out. The spokesman said the examination of the body began late last night.

Jamie's body was found yesterday afternoon at a house on the outskirts of Cavan town. It was discovered at the rear of a semi-detached house at Harmony Heights, less than half a mile from Jamie's home in the Ard na Gréine estate.

Gardaí discovered the body shortly after 4 p.m. following a phone call from a member of the public.

The body was discovered at the back of the semi-detached house close to the side entrance. The body was fully clothed and bore no apparent sign of physical attack.

The Assistant State Pathologist, Dr Margaret Bolster, arrived at 10 p.m. last night from Cork to carry out a preliminary examination at the scene before the body was removed to Cavan General hospital for a full post-mortem examination and formal identification.
