People living in republican areas must hand over more information about the murder of a man near the Border, the Northern Ireland Security Minister said today.
Paul Goggins praised co-operation between police forces on both sides of the Border on the inquiry, but there have still been no convictions despite nine northern arrests since the October 2007 killing of Mr Quinn.
Mr Quinn (21), from Cullyhanna, Co Armagh, was beaten to death at farm buildings near Castleblayney in Co Monaghan last October.
Mr Goggins told a group of MPs at Westminster: “It was a despicable act and it is regrettable that so far nobody has been charged. In a sense we see the limits still of the current situation.
“What we require to bring people to justice is for people to make statements. That still needs to happen in greater measure than it has so far.”
He was giving evidence on cross-Border crime before the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee.
Mr Quinn’s mother Briege Quinn has been outspoken in her calls for justice. She described the trauma of her son’s murder and challenged Sinn Féin’s claims that the IRA was not involved.
Sinn Féin has branded those behind the killing criminals and called for anybody with information to bring it forward.
