Millwall are considering a testimonial match for striker Richard Sadlier, who retired due to injury last week at the age of 24.

The Republic of Ireland target man hung up his boots after two operations failed to cure his long-running hip injury.

But he has been swamped with goodwill messages from Lions fans since, with many demanding the chance to say goodbye to him in one last game.

A statement on the club's official website read: "Once Richard has had the opportunity to come to terms with last week's news and decided what his future plans are, this matter will be addressed."

Sadlier scored 42 goals for the club after graduating from the youth ranks at the New Den, helping the Lions to the Division Two title in 2001.
