The Mid-Western Health Board last night confirmed a case of meningitis. It is understood the victim is a 20-year-old woman from the Miltown Malbay area of north Clare.
The woman was admitted to Ennis General Hospital on Sunday. A spokeswoman for the hospital yesterday described the woman as "seriously ill".
