Gardaí have named two young men who were killed in a crash in Galway this morning.

Gardaí have named two young men who were killed in a crash in Galway this morning.

Liam Loughlin (20) and Niall Greaney (19) both from Claregalway, died in the collision at around 3.45am on the N17 at Loughgeorge when the car they were in collided with a wall. No other vehicles were involved. Mr Greaney died at the scene, while Mr Loughlin was taken to University College Hospital Galway (UCHG), where he later died. A third man was injured and also taken to hospital where he is understood to be in critical condtion.

The driver of the car was taken to Mill Street Garda Station in Galway City where he was held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. He was released without charge this evening and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
