The Special Criminal Court yesterday granted bail on medical grounds to a Dundalk man facing two separate charges of IRA membership.

Mr Vincent McKevitt suffered a recent heart attack in Portlaoise Prison while awaiting trial on April 9th next on a membership charge relating to October 2000.

Mr McKevitt, (44) of Mountain Court, Point Road, Dundalk, is accused of membership of an unlawful organisation styling itself the IRA, on October 26th 2000.

He was out on bail when he was arrested with five others at a house in Nicholas Street South, Dundalk on January 5th, 2002. All six were charged with IRA membership on that date and Mr McKevitt was remanded in custody.
