The North's Education Minister, Mr Martin McGuinness, has announced a radical overhaul of school funding aimed at helping schools in disadvantaged areas.

Mr McGuinness said he planned to provide more Targeting Social Need money to help schools and pupils in socially deprived areas, particularly primary schools.

The Minister said it was "neither defensible, equitable nor indeed sensible" to have seven different allocation formulae. He was committed to the development of a single common funding formula.
