John McGinn from Greenore was crowned the new Irish Amateur Close champion today after his 3 and 1 victory over Roscommon’s Ken Kearney in the final at Carlow Golf Club.

McGinn defeated City of Derry’s Michael McGeady at the first tie hole in his semi-final match earlier in the day. Kearney proved too strong for Portmarnock’s Niall Goulding, winning by 4 and 3, in the other semi-final.
