Soccer - transfer news:While a move for Republic of Ireland international Stephen Hunt remains an option for Wolves, manager Mick McCarthy has already bolstered his midfield with the loan signing of Belgium's Geoffrey Mujangi Bia.

The 20-year-old Belgian international has moved from RSC Charleroi until the end of the season with an option for Wolves to make the deal permanent in the summer.

Mujangi watched last Saturday’s Premier League game with Wigan and has completed the move after passing a medical. He could make his debut in Saturday’s home FA Cup tie with Crystal Palace if clearance comes through in time.

McCarthy said: “We’ve very pleased to have signed Geoffrey. He’s a player we have been tracking for a while and will add some creativity and firepower to our squad.

“He’s an attacking midfielder who can play on the right or the left as well as centrally.”

Mujangi has scored seven times in the Belgian First Division with Charleroi in 48 appearances. He has also scored twice in six games for the Belgian Under-21s and went on to make his senior international bow against Chile last May.

The player said: “I first heard about the interest a couple of weeks ago and am very happy to have signed. I’ve played in England once before with Belgium Under-21s and it’s been my dream to play in the Premier League.

“It was good to meet the manager this week and I’m looking forward to playing for him.”

Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey added: “Geoffrey comes to us with excellent credentials and because he is only 20 years old, he has enormous potential. He is highly respected in Belgium and regarded as one of their most talented young players.

“This has been a difficult transfer window so far but we hope at least one or maybe two players will follow this signing.”

Laws starts to strengthen

Burnley boss Brian Laws is confident of tying up a deal for French forward Frederic Nimani in the next 24 hours. The Clarets are currently in talks with Monaco about taking the 21-year-old on loan until the end of the season.

Nimani would become Laws’ first signing since taking over at Turf Moor earlier this month and the manager today confirmed that the transfer was almost complete.

“He is a player that we are talking to and we are hoping to try and do something over the next 24 hours,” Laws said. “We’ve had talks with (Monaco) and he’s trained with us.”

Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Lee Grant is another name that has been linked with Burnley but Laws — who managed Grant at Hillsborough — insisted talk of a move for the player was nothing more than speculation for the time being.

As well as bringing new players in, Laws has also been trying to extend David Nugent’s stay at the club on loan from Portsmouth to the end of the season.
