A heroin addict who attacked a 66-year-old retired garda with a wood chisel and threatened to kill him with a knife has been jailed for four years by Judge Elizabeth Dunne.

Nicholas Marshall (24), Lindisfarne Park, Clondalkin, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to aggravated burglary and criminal damage at Meadow Mount, Churchtown, in February last year. Det Garda Denis Sheehan said Marshall made off with £200 worth of jewellery. Judge Dunne set a review date for October 9th.
