Gardaí in Dublin have started a murder investigation following a shooting in Dublin city centre tonight.
A 35 year-old-man was dropped at St James’s Hospital with gunshot wounds at around 7pm.
The man underwent emergency medical treatment but was subsequently pronounced dead at the hospital.
The car in which the dead man was brought to the hospital will undergo forensic analysis and the location where it was found has been sealed off by gardaí.
It will be examined in the morning by members of the Garda Technical Bureau. The exact location of the shooting is not yet known by gardaí.
No arrests have been made and a motive has yet to be established.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to contact Kilmainham Garda station on 01 666 9700.
It is less than a month since the last gun murder.
On December 4th, veteran Dublin criminal Eamonn Kelly, dubbed ‘The Godfathe’, was shot near his home in Killester in north Dublin.
He had escaped a previous attempt on his life in 2010 when his attacker’s gun jammed.
This is the 17th gun murder victim so far this year.
