A Wicklow man who pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to sexually assaulting two young girls has been remanded in custody for sentence on October 10th. The 51-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault between May 1st, 1997 and September 30th, 1997. His guilty plea came after a jury had been sworn in for his trial. The prosecution entered a nolle prosequi on three other sexual assault charges.

Judge Dominic Lynch ordered the compiling of a victim impact report on the girls. At the request of defence counsel, Mr Paul McDermott SC, he also ordered a psychological evaluation of the accused.
