A man in his sixties has been killed in a collision between two cars in Co Westmeath early this morning.

A man in his sixties has been killed in a collision between two cars in Co Westmeath early this morning.

The crash, at Newtown, Horseleap, Moate on the N6, took place at around 1.25am.

Two other people were taken to Tullamore Hospital for treatment.

The dead man's name has not been released.

Gardai at Athlone are investigating.

The man is the 270th person to die on Irish roads so far this year.
