A west Belfast man was jailed for 4 1/2 years yesterday for the manslaughter of a 23-year-old man who was stabbed to death in a Falls Road flat nearly two years ago.

Mr Kevin Taylor was fatally stabbed after a group of men forced their way into the Lisvarna Heights flat in the early hours of September 14th, 1997, and attacked him with sticks, punched and kicked him.

James Patrick Clarke (19), of Ardnaclowny Drive, was said to have been the person who knocked on the door asking to speak to Mr Taylor before the other men pushed their way in and attacked him.

Clarke was also said to have claimed the men were from the IRA, although the prosecution said police did not believe the attack was a paramilitary punishment beating.
