A 28-year-old man died in hospital yesterday after he was found with a stab wound to his abdomen in Bray, Co Wicklow.
Mr Keith Fortune, of Hazelwood, Bray, was found injured and unconscious at 1.02 a.m. yesterday in a communal entry to a pub and some business premises at Quinnsboro' Road.
He was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead at 4 a.m.
A man was later arrested and detained in connection with the stabbing.
Garda were holding a conference in Bray last night before deciding whether to forward a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions or charge an individual with a criminal offence.
Yesterday, the Bray Business Watch issued a statement calling for closed circuit television cameras to be installed in the town.
Mr Eoin Costello said that only last Friday they delivered a report to the Minister for Justice requesting the introduction of closed circuit television in Bray.
The place where the stabbing happened this weekend would have been covered by CCTV if the Government had given them immediate partial funding of a CCTV system.
He said that CCTV had proven to be highly effective in reducing crime levels, by 30 per cent on average.
For each £1 spent on CCTV, the cost caused by crime would fall by £10, he said.
