A man has been seriously injured in a stabbing in Limerick city.

A man has been seriously injured in a stabbing in Limerick city.

The victim, believed to be in his early 30s, was found with multiple stab wounds near a house on Mary Street shortly after 1.30am.

He was discovered by gardaí and emergency services who had been called to deal with a house fire in the area.

The injured man was brought to the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Limerick where his condition is described as serious but stable.

The road was closed for a time earlier this morning while emergency services dealt with the incident.
