A 23-year-old man appeared before Limerick District Court today charged with the murder of Limerick businessman Roy Collins.
The 35-year-old died following a shooting at his business premises on the south side of Limerick city a week ago.
James Dillon, of no fixed abode but originally from the south side of Limerick city, is charged with the murder of the father of two at Coincastle Amusements, Roxboro Shopping Centre, Limerick, on April 9th last.
There was a large Garda presence for yesterday’s court sitting.
Mr Dillion remained silent throughout the brief court sitting.
Det Garda Paul Madden gave evidence of formally charging him at 1.14pm yesterday at Henry Street Garda Station in Limerick. The court heard that Mr Dillon made no reply to the charge.
Solicitor John Herbert was assigned to represent him and he was granted free legal aid.
Judge Tom O’Donnell said, as the charge was one of murder the issue of bail was a matter for the High Court.
Inspector Tom O’Brien applied to have the 23-year-old remanded in custody until next week.
Judge O’Donnell granted the application and remanded him in custody until April 22nd next when he is due to appear before the same court again.
A 19-year-old man also arrested last week following the murder of Mr Collins was released without charge shortly before lunchtime yesterday after being in custody for seven days.
A 28-year-old woman arrested on Tuesday morning on suspicion of withholding information about the murder was also released without charge yesterday.
Gardaí are preparing a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions in respect of both people.
