A man was injured in a shooting in west Dublin this evening, less than 24 hours after the fatal shooting in Santry.

A Garda spokesman told ireland.coma man was shot in the face in Park Street, Ballyfermot at about 8.30 p.m.

He was taken to St James’ Hospital where his condition is described as not life threatening.

The shooting follows the launch of a murder inquiry today when Mr Gerard Fitzgerald died in what is being described as a gangland shooting. The shooting happened in Santry, north Dublin, overnight.
