An 18-year-old youth is fighting for his life after being shot three times while walking through the Irish National War Memorial Park at 3pm on Sunday.
Luke Wilson was shot twice in the head and once in the neck by a gunman who ran towards him in the public park.
The shooting took place close to a pedestrian bridge, linking the park to playing fields behind the Liffey Gaels GAA pitch.
Despite his injuries, Mr Wilson managed to call the emergency services. He was brought to St James’s Hospital where he underwent surgery to save his life.
Mr Wilson is known to gardaí and has family linked with gang activity.
Two of his uncles, Eric and Keith Wilson, are convicted murderers and are currently serving prison sentences.
The incident took place close to an area where local children play hurling and football.
Gardaí have arrested a 19-year-old man in relation to the shooting after carrying out several searches.
It is believed the incident may be linked to a recent incident in Ballyfermot, where Mr Wilson was involved in the beating of a man who spoke negatively about his uncles.
The man arrested in relation to the shooting is thought to be close to the beating victim.
