Gardaí investigating the death of a 42-year-old father of three in Co Cork last week have today arrested a man.
The 30-year-old was arrested this afternoon and is being held at Bandon Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
Don Greasley's body was found with serious injuries at the back of a house in Masseytown he rented at about 10.30am on Thursday, September 15th by the owner of the property.
A postmortem confirmed he had been the victim of a violent assault, but results of toxicology tests may confirm the exact cause of death.
A 32-year-old man was arrested in connection with Mr Greasley's death late last week but was later released. The arrest followed reports that a number of people had been intimidated into not talking to gardaí about the death of Mr Geasley in Masseytown.
Gardaí said earlier this week they were seeking to interview a man from the local area who had travelled to stay with relatives in Merseyside. Gardaí in Co Cork had contacted police in Britain to assist them in tracing him.
Investigating officers have been piecing together Mr Geasley’s movements in the hours leading up to his death and it is understood they have established that he spent the day visiting his parents in Cork city. It is also understood the victim brought some washing to his family home on Commons Road in Cork city, and he later caught a bus back to Macroom at about 6.30pm.
Gardaí have established that he later went drinking with four men around the Mart area of the town.
Officers believe Mr Geasley returned to his home in Masseytown later on Wednesday night and it was there he was assaulted.
Garda technical experts spent last weekend carrying out a forensic examination of the house, which Mr Geasley had rented for the past 18 months or so following his return from Britain after he separated from his wife and three children.
It is understood the victim was frequently visited by people who used to have drinks parties in his house and gardaí were trying to eliminate some of these men from their inquiries.
