Gardaí in Limerick have arrested a man in connection with a grenade and gun attack  at a house in the Southill area last night.

Shots were fired at the  O'Malley Park, Southill at around 8.50pm.

A device - understood to be a grenade - was also thrown at the house. It exploded in the garden.

There was one person in the house at the time, but they were not injured.

A man was detained this morning and is being held for questioning under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

Gardaí suspect the attack was linked to the murder of Noel Crawford (40), who was shot dead outside his O'Malley Park family home before Christmas.
