A 20-year-old man is still being questioned following an incident at a west Dublin pub in which customers were threatened with a gun.

Gardai said the altercation was sparked by an earlier incident when an individual was asked to leave the bar in Deansrath, Clondalkin.

But he later returned armed with a sawn-off shotgun. Witnesses said he threatened to shoot people in the pub. The armed man was overpowered by gardai who arrived at the scene.

"No shots were fired and no-one was injured," a Garda spokeswoman said.

A man is being questioned under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act at Clondalkin Garda Station. The maximum period of detention under the legislation is 72 hours.
