A Dublin man who stabbed his girlfriend in the neck, chest, arm and leg has been cleared of attempted murder by a jury in the Central Criminal Court.

Francis O'Reilly (29) of Jamestown Road, Finglas, was found guilty of threatening Ms Tracy Pepper and he had pleaded guilty to assault causing serious harm.

He showed little reaction as the jury returned their verdict after five-and-a-half hours of deliberations.

Mr Justice Butler remanded him in custody for sentencing on July 19th.

During the four-day trial O'Reilly agreed he had repeatedly stabbed Ms Pepper on May 3rd last year but denied he was trying to kill her.

O'Reilly said he attacked Ms Pepper because she was having a relationship with a man in Ballymun.
