Man for court over bank robbery

A man is to appear in court in Dublin this morning charged in connection with a bank robbery in Rathfarnham.

A man is to appear in court in Dublin this morning charged in connection with a bank robbery in Rathfarnham.

The incident occurred at the Bank of Ireland branch in Rathfarnham shopping centre on Tuesday at 12pm. A lone gunman entered the bank and demanded money from a cashier.

No shots were fired during the incident and nobody was injured.

The man walked out of the bank with an undisclosed sum and left the area in a small blue car, which was found abandoned a short time later.

Two men, aged in their mid-30s and early 40s, were later arrested in the Dublin 8 area in connection with the incident.

The man in his 30s is to appear before Tallaght District Court this morning charged in relation to the robbery.

The second man has been released and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
